New Construction NewsMarket InsightsMarket Stats Canada Housing Starts Lowest Since 2015 by Nest & Castle March 15, 2019December 3, 2020 March 15, 2019December 3, 2020 Canadian seasonally adjusted housing starts fell to 173,153 units in February of 2019 from a downwardly revised 206,809 units in January and below market expectations of 205,000 units. It is the lowest reading since December 2015. The SAAR of urban starts declined by 18% in February to 155,663 units. Single-detached urban starts dropped by 10.6 percent to 39,379 units and multiple urban starts went down by 20.2 percent to 116,284 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 17,490 units.
