The seasonally adjusted annual rates of housing starts in Canada rose 26 percent from a month earlier to 245,657 units in June 2019, the highest since November 2017 and well above market expectations of 210,000. Urban starts jumped 26 percent to 234,238 units in June, as multiple urban starts surged 31 percent to 185,804 units while single-detached urban starts increased 8 percent to 48,434 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 11,419 units.
