Housing starts in Canada fell by 20.1 percent over a month earlier to 208,980 units in September of 2020, missing market expectations of 240,000 units, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Urban starts dropped by 21.1 percent to 195,905 units, as multiple urban starts declined by 27 percent to 146,005 units while single-detached urban starts rose by 3.4 percent to 46,904 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 13,071 units.
